ABOUT ME

Marisol is an 8 year old deaf child who lives in Matamoros, Mexico. When born, doctors told her mother that she would not live to be one year old, thru continued miracles from God Marisol continues to bless those around her today.

WHAT MARISOL NEEDS

Marisol has ongoing needs daily for medical supplies to sustain her life, these include; urinary catheters and drainage bags, supplemental tube feedings and medicines. This is an expensive procedure, the cost estimate is almost $250,000 with the actual Doctors donating their time and service fees saving almost $20,000. Please see this link for cost breakdown. These are the items we are asking for help with now.

Marisol

A brief view into Marisol's daily world in Matamoros, Mexico

Marge and I met Marisol and her mother Diane in January of 2010, while conducting a medical clinic in Matamoros, Mexico.  We have been traveling to the Mexico border since 2000 to assist existing missionaries in their endeavors.  One of those missionaries is ConMisManos.  Upon meeting Marisol, we immediately fell in love with the little girl.  Our initial encounter found a little girl who couldn’t sit upright, whose gaze was unfocused and a mother who obviously loved her child.  Upon our return to Matamoros each year, we have seen steady progress in Marisol’s development.  She is so engaging when you meet her in person.  That smile is a melting smile.  Remember this is the child which was not expected to live more than a few months after birth.  She is now eight years old.  Marisol desperately needs these life sustaining surgeries.  If she was in the United States, our health system would have properly provided the necessary treatment for her many conditions.  Marisol is a victim of her residence.  We plead with all who read this info to take a few moments and donate a few dollars to this worthy cause.  Thank you and God bless you for your generosity.

My name is J. Scott Vukin;  I am a Deacon and Treasurer  of the Missions Committee at the Northland Church of Christ in Grant, Michigan.   We have been supporting the Deaf Ministry of Con Mis Manos with regular donations since November of 2011.  In September of 2013 we began providing the monthly funds for Marisol's Medical supplies and Nutritional  Supplements.  Additionaly  a couple in our congregation,  an Elder and his wife who have been involved in 3-month short term Missionary efforts in the Matamoros area began working with Con Mis Manos on these trips over four years ago.   We can verify the authenticity and  the severity of the need.  Our Missions Group has sent out a check specifically for the "Save Marisol" Project and our Church is taking a special offering on Sunday the 21st of September.   With GOD all things are possible!

Chuy&Michelle Zuniga

Matamoros, Mexico

I met Marisol when she began classes 5 years ago at the Deaf educational ministry my husband and I lead in the border town of Matamoros.  At the time her mother had been told by doctors that Marisol was incapable of even the most routine tasks such as sitting up or drinking from a cup.

Marisol has repeatedly proven this diagnosis wrong as she has step by step learned tasks she didn't know she was not supposed to be able to do.  Not only did she learn to sit up but now stands and is anxious to walk on her own.  She is quite the opinionated 8 yr old now as she has a routine and wants it followed exactly.  In school she works one on one with a special teacher learning sign language to communicate with others.  She now tells her mom when she wants milk instead of water, when she wants to play with a certain toy and when she wants a bath.  Marisol has learned over 100 signs.  She has her favorites- green is her new favorite color, she likes frogs more than dogs, and she like to learn signs for food most of all.  Marisol can count to 10 and knows several letters of the alphabet.

Marisol also knows when she feels sicker one day more than another.  She will tell us when she is in pain. In the past year these days of pain have been more numerous. Before her health declined even more this summer Marisol had been attending physical therapy and equine therapy. The girl who was told she could learn to sit proved she could not only sit in a chair but also on the back of a horse.  Sadly she has had to stop this therapy as she has become weaker.  She now tires faster, hurts more, and gets frustrated faster.

Even since she was born her parents were told not to expect anything from their daughter, that she was incapable of thought or feelings.  Marisol has proven every diagnosis wrong.   Her 37 deaf classmates pray at the beginning of every class day asking God to help Marisol and provide the healing she needs to continue learning and growing.
